"Don't play it safe and experiment with new techniques"

Output

A process-driven exploration combining unfamiliar materials and methods.

Process

For this piece, I embraced experimentation by randomly generating three techniques: foiling, oil pastel, and collage. I began with a digital collage, converting it to black and white to prepare for toner-reactive foiling. I printed the design onto nearly 20 sheets of black cardstock, then applied foil using heat. The foil adhered to the laser-printed areas, creating a reflective, high-contrast surface. Next, I introduced oil pastel, applying it sporadically across each frame. I then physically scored another animation into the surface, carving into the layered materials to add another level of texture and disruption. After scanning each frame back in, I reassembled them into an animation. The final result is highly textural and immersive—the text becomes partially illegible, but the piece shifts into something that is more about sensation than readability.
